Germany Electricity Trading Market & Tesla
ermany is Europe's biggest electricity market and the heart of the car industry.As Germany becomes more reliant on erratic wind and solar power, grid services are becoming more important.Tesla recently received a license to trade power across Western Europe.The company surveys Customers in Germany to see if their cars might run on Tesla's electricity, allowing Tesla to challenge established utilities in the country.
In addition, Tesla has long-term plans to cooperate with the energy industry and increase investment in the renewable energy industry.Tapping into the energy services market could open the way for Tesla to leverage the power stored by its customers to balance grid output.Elon Musk appears to have opened a new front in the battle for supremacy of electric cars in Europe: providing electricity.Power generation and electricity trading could help Tesla reduce operating costs at a time when rivals such as BMW, Audi, Porsche and Mercedes are rolling out new electric models.
Tesla could also increase competition with utilities such as Vattenfall and EnBW, which are also investing in electric mobility services, but like RWE and E.ON in the same industry, Vattenfall and EnBW are struggling to cut costs for fossil fuels and nuclear power plants.
Tesla already sells solar panels and Powerwall battery storage systems for homes, but now appears to be considering selling power directly to customers and using home storage systems to service the grid
In June of 2020, Tesla became a member of the Paris-based EPEX Spot Power Exchange.The exchange is a platform for trading much of Western Europe's cross-border daytime electricity.They investigate German customers' interest in energy services.Among the questions, according to the survey reviewed by Reuters, were: "What prompted you to abandon your current energy provider?"Other questions included: "If you could switch to a specially designed Tesla electricity price system, would you buy Tesla photovoltaic systems and home storage products?
In short, Tesla has taken several steps to expand its energy activities.
The next obvious step is to get into energy production, especially renewable energy.
Tesla could use self-holding points, such as factory roofs or charging stations, and it could take stakes in solar or wind farms. We believe that in the future, electricity will be more abundant, people will use electricity cheaply and conveniently, and a better life is just around the corner.
